On July 26th, 2012, a trial will take place in the city of Patras (Western Greece) against anarchist Christos Stratigopoulos, who is accused of robbing a bank on Kefallonia Island that was carried out in July 2009.

The comrade has been convicted and imprisoned for a bank robbery in Trikala – for which he has also claimed responsibility. In this particular case, however, Christos was indicted on the basis of fabricated evidence and has no involvement whatsoever in Kefallonia’s robbery.

Anarchist Black Cross Berlin has disseminated two solidarity calls (here, in German), namely an older text by the Assembly of solidarity to imprisoned and prosecuted fighters/Athens, as well as a recent update by the Solidarity fund for prisoners in struggle/Greece. The latter mentions, inter alia, that Christos’ prison sentence was reduced to five years after an appeal trial which took place in February 2012. Consequently, the comrade should have been released from prison within a few weeks after the final appeal hearing, but remains a hostage in Larissa prisons due to the new arrest warrant and prosecution.

The court proceeding for the bank robbery on Kefallonia was set for the 26th of July 2012, in the courts of Patras.
