Ekathimerini

One of the suspects involved in the shooting of five men in the resort of Ayia Napa on Cyprus just over a week ago has been remanded in custody in the Athens neighborhood of Exarchia on several occasions on suspicion of anarchist activity, Kathimerini understands.

The 29-year-old was arrested in Athens with a 41-year-old man also suspected of involvement in anti-establishment groups. Sources said the younger man was arrested in November 2010 for alleged rioting.

Police are also studying possible links to the Revolutionary Struggle urban guerrilla group. The two men are suspected of traveling to Cyprus to carry out the contract killing of businessman Phanos Kalopsidiotis, but they allegedly killed his bodyguards instead. They were traced thanks to CCTV footage and some mistakes, such as renting a type of car of which there are only four in circulation in the whole of Cyprus, police said.
