BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — An Argentine judge has ordered police to evict protesters blocking the Cerro Dragon energy complex, an important supplier of oil and natural gas that has been forced off line due to vandalism by a renegade union group.
Judge Eva Parcio in Patagonia told provincial officers to remove the so-called “Dragons” from highways where they have blocked access to the Pan American Energy Company’s complex of oil and gas wells. The complex is jointly owned and operated by British Petroleum and Argentine and Chinese investors.
“The Dragons” represent construction workers demanding 23 percent wage increases. They blocked highways after ending a takeover of the plant that caused millions of dollars in damage to high-tech equipment, putting thousands out of work and cutting off energy to Argentina’s frigid southern provinces.
